Help to Grow comes to Huddersfield

Published 14th Mar 2022 by Emma Sinfield

Huddersfield Business School were delighted to hear that they have been awarded the Small Business Charter (SBC) in recognition of their commitment to supporting student entrepreneurship, small businesses, and the local economy. This award recognises the UK’s world-class business schools and is a significant achievement for everyone connected to Huddersfield Business School.

“Enriching communities and organisations is at the core of Huddersfield Business School’s mission and it is heartening to have our engagement with SMEs recognised externally” (said Professor Jill Johnes, Dean of Huddersfield Business School). The SBC panel heard about how Huddersfield Business School supports the interests of SMEs through regional initiatives such as the European Structural and Investment Funds (ESIF) and Local Growth Fund, as well as national initiatives including the IUK Knowledge Transfer Partnerships and collaborative awards.

As well as recognising their existing work with SMEs, the Small Business Charter will enable Huddersfield Business School to deliver the government’s Help to Grow: Management Course, a £520 million scheme to help owners of small and medium-sized businesses take their business to the next level.

Huddersfield Business School will deliver their first Help to Grow (Management) programme at the end of April and it will run for 12 weeks.Designed to fit alongside work commitments and 90% funded by the government, the programme builds capabilities in leadership, innovation, digital adoption, employee engagement, marketing, responsible business, and financial management. The programme is open to any business with 5-249 employees from any sector. There are plans to also deliver a programme in Wakefield.
